is rahab's lie justified? though the musical did not put much focus on the lie of rahab, saga aka timothy raised the question on my tagboard, so i shall discuss it, or rather, i will state my stand and then discuss.
this topic is really controversial! i rmb there was one ks camp when bro linus chua had discussed this. saga, were u there? :)
i think that rahab did not do wrong in this context cos i guess all this was pre-ordianed by God. i mean, im not trying to say that God, in his sovereignty and pureness, had to make use of a lie to protect His people. however, as u noe, God knew that such a thing would happen since the beginning of times and yet He did not prevent it. but i must correct any misunderstanding, i dont say that God approved of her lie. it is just that he made use of rahab, who told a lie in her human nature. (i hope im making sense! this topic is real hard to talk.)
also, the bible says that God will not put us under trials and burdens too heavy for us to bear. so if rahab had lied, i think if it was her only way then, and God will understand. duh, i dont feel too comfortable about saying how God felt about the matter. please forgive me if i sound too much. though rahab's lying was a clear cut sin, my opinion is that she is justified, given her situation.
and i dont doubt rahab's faith if you suggest that why didnt she trust God to save the spies instead of relying on her lie. when she lied, she very well knew the trouble she was puttting herself into by lying to the king's soldiers and trusted God for the way out. furthermore, she believed that God would be able to keep her house uncannily standing though the rest of the fortress fell.
i say this although im unable to rebutt the point that if rahab had not told a lie, God would still be able to save the spies, and through the incident manifest His power and greatness. haiz, but i still do think that rahab is justified, seeing the difficult cirsumstance she was facing.
so saga, what is your stand? :)
